PARTICIPANT INFORMATION SHEET
You are invited to take part in this research project, which is called The Affective Abilities of Australian Outdoor Leaders: A National Survey. This Participant Information Sheet tells you about the research project. It explains the processes involved with taking part. Please read this information carefully. Feel free to ask about anything you don’t understand or want to know more (contact details below). I also encourage you to print and retain a copy of this
Participant Information. The project has been approved by the Torrens University Australia Human Research Ethics Committee (application 40/18).
This study seeks to understand the affective abilities, often known as soft skills, central to the fulfilment of outdoor leader roles. My goal is to gain a ‘big picture’ view about the perceptions and proficiency of affective abilities in the outdoor recreation field nationally. You will be asked for information about age, gender, qualifications and geographically because I am curious to know if this effects the development and prioritisation of affect abilities. The study aims to support education, recruitment and training strategies in Australian outdoor experience provision sector.
Your participation in this project will involve the completion of an anonymous survey lasting approximately 7 minutes. Upon completion of your survey, you will be asked to provide an email address in order to enter the draw for 1 of 4 prizes. This is completely voluntary, and your contact details will be used for no other purpose other than to select a winner. All contact information will be destroyed at the completion of the study.
Participation in any research project is voluntary. Completion of the online survey is taken as implied consent, but you may withdraw from the survey at any time by closing the web browser or navigating away from the online survey. If you decide to discontinue the survey, your data will not be kept; responses will only be retained upon your submission of the survey. However, once you have submitted the survey, I will not be able to withdraw your responses as the survey is anonymous. Information provided by participants will be treated as private and confidential. This includes storing and managing data in accordance with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. The information collected as part of this research project may be
published and/or presented in a variety of forums. In any publication and/or presentation, information will be provided in such a way that you cannot be identified. Confidentiality is maintained by ensuring responses are anonymous, aggregated and summarised before reported.
This study has been initiated by Dr Mandi Baker and has been funded by the Australian Camps Associations and the Dept. of Health and Human Services, Victoria State Government.
